Things to do in Corvallis, Oregon

Corvallis is one of the most vibrant cities in all of Oregon, and a great place to spend a weekend. Whether you’re moving to the city, or just passing by, we’ve put together a list of some great activities to partake in while in Corvallis.

Alsea Fish Hatchery

The Alsea Fish Hatchery raises steelhead and rainbow trout to be entered back into the streams of Oregon. A great option for kids, the hatchery has a stream scene pond, a sturgeon pond, and a trophy trout pond all available for the public. Fishing can be done on site as well for Chinook salmon, and guided tours are available of the hatchery.

Avery Park Rose Garden

The Rose Garden in Avery Park, Corvallis, features over 250 varieties of roses that bloom throughout the summer months. It is especially spectacular during the month of June when the majority of roses are in full bloom. The Rose Garden is often reserved for wedding ceremonies and is a great place to plan a picnic or spend a warm and sunny Corvallis afternoon.

Corvallis Environmental Center

The Corvallis Environmental Center runs the Avery House Nature Center, which is a¬†great place to visit for all ages. You can stop by to learn from their environmental exhibits or sign up for weekly science programs. It’s a great place to bring the kids on a field trip, or just for the afternoon. They offer a variety of events for adults as well, including birding classes for adults, and learning about fungus and the local ecosystem, which is great for parents and kids alike.

Corvallis Knights

If you’re looking to catch a ball game while in town, the Corvallis Knights play throughout the summer season. In the past, the Knights have done very well, ranking in the top five in their division in the United States. The Knights play on the Oregon State University campus at Goss Stadium, which offers great seating and gives you a great opportunity to tour the campus before or after the game.

Oregon State University makes Corvallis the vibrant and exciting town that it’s known to be. The University is home to numerous plays, sporting events, and festivals, and the community is very much connected with the campus. If the weather is nice, you can stroll through their campus and stop in many of their buildings that are open to the public.

Majestic Theatre

If you’re looking for a show, there’s no better place to go than to the Majestic Theatre in downtown Corvallis. For the current season, you can catch a performance of Steel Magnolias, attend a playwright’s lab and experience numerous local artists and performers. The Majestic Center is also home to many educational programs for all ages.

Beazell Memorial Forest

If you’re looking for a great place to hike, Beazell Memorial County Forest has a lot of space to do that. With 586 acres, it is the largest park in Benton County and is known for its progressive ecosystem management practices. The park also has accessible restrooms, drinking water, and picnic areas.
