The Best Places to Visit During a Laurel Highlands Fall Color Tour

Late in September or all of October is the time when people take to the roads for the fall foliage burst of color. The Laurel Highlands in southwestern Pennsylvania is one of the most beautiful places to take in the foliage and visit regional attractions.

Route 30 Scenic Drive
One of the most scenic drives through The Laurel Highlands is Route 30 between Irwin and Stoystown. Twin Lakes Park features pathways around the lakes that are lovely for a walk on an autumn afternoon. An alternate route to take, that’s equally scenic, is the portion of Route 381 that travels through Rector, Pennsylvania to Linn Run State Park. Along the way, you’ll see farms, private, country estates, and views of the hills of Pennsylvania. Adams Falls at the state park is a lovely spot to stop for a picnic lunch. When you continue the drive, Wolf Rocks Overlook, and Beam Rocks Overlook are perfect for panoramic views and snapping photos of the foliage.

Laurel Highlands Scenic Byway
One of the must-see features of the Laurel Highlands Scenic Byway is Ohiopyle State Park with miles of nature trails, scenic views, and waterfalls in more than 20,000 acres. Central Ohiopyle has views of the Youghiogheny River and an education center. Central Ohiopyle has good restaurants and shops to browse. One place you must see on this trip is to architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s breathtaking home Fallingwater. If you’re staying at Oak Lodge in Stahlstown, they have an accommodation package that includes admission to Fallingwater.
