The Note Project is a global movement to make the world a million times better by inspiring people to share notes of appreciation. Our goal is 1 million notes!

The project was founded by Mike O’Mary, and was inspired by the reaction of people to the Note Video and The Note gift book, which was named Best Gift Book of 2011 in the Living Now Book Awards.

We are grateful to our sponsors and to everyone who is helping to spread the word. The Note Project is possible thanks to you!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Note Project Aims to Inspire 1 Million People to Write Notes of Appreciation and Support Literacy Projects Around the World

Movement to “make the world a million times better” by sharing appreciation begins with free telesummit on April 18, 19 and 20

Chicago, Illinois – The Note Project, a global movement to inspire 1 million people to write notes of appreciation, begins April 18, 2011.

People around the world are invited to visit the Note Project website where they can pledge to send a note of appreciation. There is no cost to make a pledge, and each pledge counts toward the goal of 1 million notes.

“A simple note of appreciation can change a person’s life,” said Note Project founder Mike O’Mary. “Equally important, writing a note of appreciation can change your life.”

The Note Project website provides visitors with helpful tips, inspiring stories and videos, free e-cards, a free lesson plan for teachers, and a place to share notes and stories of appreciation. Selected notes and stories will be published in a book about the Note Project.

The Note Project was inspired by a simple note of appreciation O’Mary received his youngest sister.

“That note healed years of self-doubt for me, and taught me firsthand about the power of appreciation,” said O’Mary. “The goal of the Note Project is to make it easy for other people to share appreciation, and to provide a place to share notes and stories of appreciation.”

The Note Project will also support literacy projects around the world by making donations to at least 12 literacy projects in 12 countries over the next 12 months via GlobalGiving and GlobalGivingUK. A share of each sale of optional Note Project Starter eKits will be donated to literacy projects. Each eKit costs $1.00 and includes an e-book edition of The Note, a book about the power of appreciation and how a simple note can change a person’s life.

The Note Project begins on April 18, 19 and 20 with a free Note Project Telesummit that will explore all aspects of making appreciation a part of daily life. Guest panelists on the telesummit will be best-selling authors and experts on appreciation, including Nia Peeples, Dan Millman, Chester Elton, Brenda Adelman,  Michael McMillan, John Kralik, Lynn Serafinn, Gail Goodwin, Florence Isaacs, and Note Project founder Mike O’Mary.

    Dear Mike,

I’ve just posted a comment on the “Your Notes” page about the thank-you notes and thank-you letter I’ve just finished writing. I neglected to name a number there, but you’d be proud of me: I wrote 18 thank-you notes in the past seven days! And I can tell you (as if you didn’t know this already), it feels really good to send a note of appreciation–it changes our whole outlook!

    Thanks for all you do.

    Mike,
I work for Olson Funeral & Cremation Services in Rockford, IL, and saw that you are doing an event at Kar-Fre Flowers in DeKalb. Is there some way we can host an event with you as the guest for people who may struggle with writing sympathy notes following the death of a loved one or friend? I love your story – it seems like it would have a huge impact on people who are feeling grief. Please let me know if you are interested or have any ideas on how we can work together.
    Thank you,
    Janine Idstein

Hi Janine. Thanks for reaching out. Per our offline conversations, I would be honored to host an event to talk about sympathy notes. In addition to writing The Note, I recently edited a book called Saying Goodbye, which consists of true stories about how we say goodbye to the people, places and things in our lives. One of the things I learned from that experience is that sharing stories helps the healing process — it’s cathartic. And one way to share stories and honor the memory of loved ones is through sympathy notes. Let me know whenever you would like me to come and talk. -Mike
